Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

BookToAnki (booktoanki.com) is a vocabulary learning tool that converts EPUB, PDF, and TXT files into Anki-compatible flashcard decks using natural language processing. For privacy enquiries, contact us at contact@bkbr.net.

2. Data We Collect

Account Data

We use Google OAuth for sign-in. When you authenticate, Google provides us your display name, email address, and profile picture. We store this to identify your account and associate your decks and subscription with it.

Uploaded File Content

Files you submit (EPUB, PDF, TXT) are temporarily stored on our servers for the duration of processing only. Once vocabulary extraction is complete, the original file is deleted. We do not read or store your file content beyond what is necessary to complete the requested job.

Generated Content

The vocabulary words, translations, and example sentences produced from your uploads are stored in your account vault. This data is retained so you can access your decks and export them. You can delete decks at any time, which permanently removes the associated data.

Subscription Data

We store your subscription plan and status (free or Pro). Payment details such as card numbers are never stored by us — they are handled entirely by Dodo Payments. We receive only confirmation of subscription status from Dodo Payments.

Usage & Technical Data

We collect server-side logs including API request timestamps, error reports, and deck generation history. This data is used to diagnose issues, prevent abuse, and improve service reliability. We do not engage in user-level behavioural profiling for advertising.

Session Cookies

We use a session cookie set by NextAuth to keep you signed in. This cookie contains no sensitive personal data beyond a signed session token. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To authenticate you and maintain your session
• To process uploaded files and generate vocabulary decks
• To store your decks and make them accessible from your account
• To run translation and vocabulary extraction when requested
• To manage your Pro subscription and enforce feature access
• To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and service overuse
• To improve the NLP pipeline and service quality (using anonymised aggregate data)

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third parties to provide the service:

• Google — OAuth sign-in, Google Translate API for vocabulary translations, Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Dodo Payments — Merchant of Record for all billing transactions. Dodo Payments processes payment information under their own privacy and data security policies. We receive only subscription status signals.

We do not sell or share your personal data with any third party for advertising purposes.

5. Data Retention

Uploaded files are deleted immediately after processing completes. Generated vocabulary data and account information are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated content is permanently deleted within 30 days. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. You can delete individual decks and vault audio directly from your account. To request full account deletion or a data export, contact us at contact@bkbr.net.

If you are based in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

7. Children's Privacy

BookToAnki is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date below will reflect the most recent change. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
